Wellspring Unveils Industry’s Most Advanced Handheld Meter Reader

Wirelessly Monitors Consumption Data; Facilitates Quick and Accurate Performance Testing

San Diego, CA (February 2, 2004)—Wellspring International Inc., the world’s leading provider of wireless, point-of-use water submeters for all building types, today unveiled its newest product – the Aqura (pronounced Ak’-u-rah) handheld meter reader.

About the size of a TV remote control, the handheld meter reader allows apartment residents and owners to remotely read their meter registers from anywhere in the apartment, providing them with real-time usage data. That data includes the number of “flow events” (showers, toilet flushes, dishwasher cycles, etc.), flow-time in minutes, hot and cold-water usage, leak diagnostics and tamper detection.

“Wellspring’s meter reader will tell you more about your utility consumption than your cable remote reveals about tonight’s programming,” said Brian Brittsan, president of Wellspring International. “While there are a number of other handheld devices in the marketplace, I know of no other that delivers this level of functionality to property owners and their residents.”

Utilizing the same patented, radio system as the Aqura line of submeters, the Aqura handheld meter reader wirelessly displays water and wet energy usage data within multifamily residential units. These readings are collected and uploaded through a parallel system to Wellspring’s data and billing center several times per day, and made available on the Internet to both landlord and resident. Wellspring has found that when residents are responsible for and aware of their own utility expenses, consumption drops at least 20% - bringing a significant conservation benefit to apartment owners and the environment alike.
