Wellspring Wireless Utility Services Develops “Best-Of-Class” Consortium Network establishes nation’s first water sub-utility for all building types

San Diego, CA (March 20, 2002)—In an effort to satisfy market needs often overlooked by traditional water submetering companies, Wellspring Wireless Utility Services has developed a consortium of “best-of-class” service providers. The consortium includes four industry leaders: Web Service Company for representation and sales; Roto-Rooter for installation and maintenance; Utility Data Systems for data warehousing; and American States Water Company for billing and collections.

“We are pleased to be backed by some of the nation’s leading and most reputable brands,” says Brian Brittsan, president of Wellspring. “The experience of this consortium is measured in decades of exceptional quality and customer services. We are proud to be associated with these companies." The consortium enables Wellspring to act as the nation’s only complete sub-utility for all building types, offering meter installation, reading, billing and collection services.

Submetering is a method of shifting water and sewer expenses from the property owner to the resident by tracking their actual usage with a water meter. While energy utilities such as gas and electricity have been submetered for years, the rising cost of water and increasing scarcity have made water submetering a top priority for many property owners.

Wellspring's submetering system, Aqura, uses low-cost, point-of-use meters with advanced wireless communications that measure both flow and temperature. Aqura is the only practical means of metering buildings with shared riser plumbing, making it the only solution for all building types in a portfolio.

“We were approached by several other submetering companies looking to form a partnership, but we chose Wellspring,” says Steve Pollyea, vice president of sales and marketing for Roto-Rooter. “Wellspring stands alone in its ability to meter high-rise properties, creating a true portfolio snapshot for the first time. They give property owners and managers a rock-solid basis for recouping utility expenses of entire portfolios.”
